Cold chamber
For the adventurous and health-conscious
Goosebumps and feelings of happiness are all part of the cryotherapy experience.
After all, anyone who steps out of Werzers cryo-suite – which is minus 110 degrees Celsius – after just a few minutes
usually has a broad grin on their face. The extreme cold not only provides
a proper burst of freshness, but also releases plenty of endorphins – in other words, feelings of happiness.

Applications for cold chambers
Whether it was Hippocrates, Sebastian Kneipp or Paracelsus – they all knew that when it’s really cold, that’s when you really start to feel healthy. However, whilst cold was previously used primarily for pain relief, whole-body cold therapy is now regarded as a true miracle cure for holistic wellbeing.
Researchers have so far identified over 50 areas of application in the fields of sport, beauty and health. It is therefore no wonder that cold therapy is regarded as an effective ‘miracle cure’ for holistic wellbeing.
Cold and health
Cold therapy has been shown to achieve long-term success in treating a wide variety of conditions. The powerful thermal stimulus activates the body’s self-healing mechanisms, relieves pain, inhibits inflammatory processes and strengthens the immune system.
- Pain relief for rheumatism and other inflammatory conditions
- Improved joint function
- Increased endorphin release
- Reduction in sleep disturbances
- Relief from migraines and headaches
- Natural antidepressant
Cold for beauty’s sake
A better sense of well-being without any sweat or surgery? Regular visits to the cryochamber achieve exactly that. Even hours after the treatment, your metabolism is still working at full speed, blood circulation is boosted, and you generally feel fresher and more balanced.
- Increased calorie burn
- Tissue firming through increased blood circulation
- Cellulite can be reduced
- Increased elimination of toxins
- Enhanced sense of well-being
- Improved sleep quality
Cold weather in sport
Cold therapy has become an indispensable part of professional sport. This is hardly surprising when you consider the wide-ranging benefits of cold chambers for athletes: fatigued muscles recover up to 50 per cent faster. Muscle tension is minimised and the healing process is accelerated.
- Improved performance through enhanced metabolic function
- Pain relief following injuries
- Improved joint function
- Anti-oedema effect
- Increased oxygen supply
- Improved recovery

Your visit
You enter the whole-body cold chamber wearing a face mask, gloves, thick shoes and headphones to keep your ears warm and enjoy some lively tunes. First, you enter an antechamber at -60 °C. You stay there for about a minute. You then enter the main chamber, which is at -110 °C; you stay there for between two and a half and three and a half minutes.
Once you’re in the main chamber, you can move slowly back and forth. A member of staff will be in the room the whole time, and you can make eye contact with them. The treatment can be stopped at any time.

FAQs
The central nervous system reacts to the brief exposure to cold. The cold has a positive effect on pain memory and increases the tolerance of pain receptors.
The air in the whole-body cold chamber is particularly dry, which is why this experience is perceived as refreshing and invigorating.
During the preliminary consultation, the ideal treatment time for you will be determined based on your weight, height and age. The maximum duration of the session is 3 minutes.
Positive effects on health and well-being can be observed after just the first visit. However, long-term and lasting benefits can only be achieved through regular use of the cold chamber.
Cryotherapy is generally regarded as a gentle treatment with no side effects. However, if you suffer from any of the conditions listed below, or if you are unsure, we recommend that you consult your GP beforehand or refrain from undergoing treatment.
- if people are very sensitive to the cold
- in cases of cold allergy
- in cases of acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases
- in cases of high blood pressure
- in cases of arterial circulatory disorders
- in cases of epilepsy and polyneuropathy
- following a stroke
In order to achieve demonstrable and long-term positive effects on health and well-being, the skin’s surface temperature must be rapidly lowered to -5 degrees, as this is the only way to trigger the release of anti-inflammatory messenger substances. This can only be achieved at a constant treatment temperature of minus 100 to minus 110 degrees. In chambers with lower temperatures, you may eventually feel the cold, but without any added benefit.
Long-term and demonstrable benefits for health and wellbeing can only be achieved through regular cold therapy. Generally, a maximum of three treatments per week is recommended. However, a higher number of treatments is possible following prior medical consultation and may be appropriate depending on the treatment objective (e.g. for the treatment of rheumatic pain).
